Akshaya Tritiya falls on the third day of Shukla Paksha of Vaishakha month (April-May), when the Sun and Moon are in exaltation; they are simultaneously at their peak of brightness, which happens only once every year.
Akshaya Tritiya is one such momentous occasion, which is considered as the most auspicious day. It is believed, any meaningful activity started on this day would be fruitful.
Whoever worships lord krishna and applies chandan all over lord krishna goes to vaikuntha. Any japa, homa, pitru tarpana, or daana done that day becomes Akshaya means he or she earns lots of good karma that day.
In Mahabharata, the Pandavas received the Akshaya Pathre (bowl) from Lord Krishna on this day. The Akshaya Pathre provided unlimited food for the Pandavas during their exile. Due to this reason, people believe that anything that is acquired on this day will be replenished. This is an appropriate day to do special Pujas, bathe in holy rivers, make a charity, and worship Lord Krishna, Ganesha and Lakshmi.
